On the 23rd March 2013, the Sandgate Hawks Masters Australian Football Club (AFC) will join forces with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia to host the Queensland AFL Masters ‘BE A MAN’ football carnival, at the Sandgate Hawks Sporting Club, 120 Lemke Road, Taigum from 10:00am. The Game of AFL Masters (AFLM) provides the opportunity for players 30 years and over to enjoy the game of Aussie Rules Football regardless of age, fitness or ability. AFLM is played under modified rules in a safe, fun and supportive environment. The Sandgate Hawks Masters AFC has built a strong comradery, with a focus on health, community and family. One of the main objectives of the carnival is to further promote men’s health, particularly prostate cancer awareness. Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in Australia and the Master’s age bracket is the most likely to be effected. All proceeds from the carnival will be donated to the Prostrate Cancer Foundation of Australia. The Sandgate Hawks Masters AFC committee have commenced planning and preparations for the carnival and season ahead. “The 2013 AFLQ Masters ‘BE A MAN’ Carnival” will incorporate AFL demonstration games for the 33, 38 and 45 year age brackets. This will be the first year for the event and will hopefully be well supported, making it an annual event thereafter.” commented Greg Bakx, Secretary of the Sandgate Hawks Masters AFC. “We are extremely pleased to be supporting the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and invite all to come all along, show your support and enjoy the fun, family atmosphere. Businesses are also encouraged to participate in the carnival and show support for local sport and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. Corporate Sponsorships Packages are available which include enticing marketing opportunities for local businesses.” he added. The Sandgate Hawks Masters AFC also invites any men over 30 years to join in on pre-season training, commencing on Wednesday 30th January 2013. “There are no pre requisites or fitness tests, just simply show up and have fun. It couldn’t be any easier.” commented Brad Willoughby, Sandgate Hawks Masters coach.
