Armadale top group in 6-1 rout

Forrestfield United head coach Richard Changadzo was ecstatic with his team’s performance despite losing 6-1 to Armadale at Alfred Skeet Oval in the late kick-off of Group A in the 2013 Night Series.

“You look at our first 25 minutes of the game, and the score is 2-1 at half time. I’m happy. At the end of the day it’s not about the result at this juncture,” he said.

“I was pretty happy with the way they handled themselves. It’s a learning curve.

“I said to the boys in the change room at half time, you should look around and give yourselves a pat on the back.

“I’ve got young boys in my squad, so they are still learning. Maybe it’s a bit of anxiety just kicked in.

“We still came here and played the way we wanted to play regardless of what happens we are not going to change the way we play.”

Armadale started very quickly scoring in the third minute as Lance Louvie flashed a header across Steve Parry into the far post after Rhys Loxley crossed the ball in from the left.

It took four minutes for Forrestfield to respond after the ball fell nicely to Ben Fraser in the box who buried the ball into the top corner.

Louvie was on the score sheet in the 11th minute with a cool side-footed volley after being given far too much space inside the penalty area.

Five minutes after the restart, Louvie scored his third with a header from a corner at the near post.

Armadale started to break away and in the 54th minute Ian Maguire bundled the ball in from on the line after Forrestfield failed to clear from a corner.

Jackson Bealey made it five for the premiership side after breaking through the visitor’s defence from right back, poking the ball smartly past Forrestfield substitute keeper Daniel Morgan.

Louvie finished off the scoring, also notching his fourth for the evening in a fine performance from Armadale.

Morgan saved Callum Barry’s initial shot, but the ball fell to Barry who played the ball to Louvie who slotted into an empty net.

Armadale assistant coach Kevin Brophy took lots of positives from the game.

“We are just taking each game as it comes. I know that’s a cliché, but it’s exactly how it is,” he said.

“We are using it as pre-season development and if it takes us to the top of the group and to the quarter finals, then we re-evaluate things then.

“I’m very happy with the result. It was tight in the first half, but we held out in the second half and got on top then.”

After finishing last season in a relegation scrap, Brophy was confident of the upcoming season.

“We weren’t disappointed last year, we were very happy with what we achieved,” he said.

“We’ve had a whole off season to recruit we’ve brought in some good players, we’ve got some young players here who are a year smarter and a year stronger.

“We’ll be no push over this year.”
