North East Diamonds v Southern Blue Tongues – Round 1

By Harriet Cordner

For the first round of the season the North East U17 Girls came out
firing. With focus being strongly on playing the ball out from the back,
keeping possession and spreading wide, the girls played fantastic
football, and this showed on the scoreboard.

An even spread of goal scorers, Natasha Lusi, Emma Hubbard, Emma
Heckenberg and Ally Loudovaris, with one goal each. The convincing 4
– 1 win showed a solid team effort and displayed the teams potential for
the continuing season.

North East Diamonds v Central City – Sunday 28 October 2012

By Jess Tay

After a great win against Western Wolves the previous day, the U17 North East diamonds took on Central City for the 2nd match of the Metro Gala weekend. The fatigue from the previous match did not show as the girls thoroughly dominated the game, slotting home 8 goals.

The girls played a fantastic style of football which was praised by not only the coaches of both teams, but also by the FFA technical director.

Emma Heckenberg scored a fantastic hattrick, while Natasha Lusi also scored herself a brace. Elaina Vatcky, Ellen Turner and Jess Tay also got onto the scoreboard with a goal a piece.

North East Diamonds v Geelong Galaxy - Sunday 11 November 2012

By Emma Hubbard

The conditions at Darebin were as extreme as always; the sun was blazing hot and the wind was strong. In the changing rooms, coach Joe focused on playing the ball out from the back, keeping possession, spreading wide, keeping the ball on the ground and not giving up.

We walked onto the windy pitch preparing ourselves for the upcoming match. We started with the wind against Geelong Galaxy, Natasha Lusi scoring the first of 9 goals of the match only 13 minutes in.

The goals kept coming after this, Emma Heckenburg, Emma Hubbard, Natasha Lusi, Dani Galluccio scoring two goals each. The team played well, connecting the defence and midfield strongly.

Elaina Vatcky finished the match with a fantastic penalty into the corner of the net in the final minutes, after being knocked over in the box. The final score was 9-0 to the Diamonds, continuing our undefeated streak.

North East Diamonds v Eastern FC - Saturday 1st December 2012

By Bethany Mason-Jones

The first game of the North East Diamonds second Melbourne gala round was against Eastern FC.

The first day of summer certainly was noticed out on the pitch; although it was hot, the girls got ready to play some quality football. North East opened the scoring, but within 10 minutes Eastern’s number 10, Cristina Cardaci, got one. 1-1.

Eastern were looking strong in the first 15-20 minutes and played the curriculum very well and matched the U17 Diamonds. North East then decided to wake up and show Eastern why they’re on top. Within a couple of goals half time came. 5-1.

The second half was a successful one with Diamonds out playing the opposition in all areas of the pitch. The girls really showed their hunger for the ball and received a well-deserved good night’s sleep in preparation for game 2.

Goal Scorers of the match were Emma Heckenberg and Alessandra Loudovaris grabbing a goal each, Natasha Lusi taking home a brace, Elaina Vatcky and Ellen Turner grasping a hatrick for themselves and Emma Hubbard Snatching 4 goals.

Well played girls!

VCL Match Report  -  Sophie Landgren

Saturday 15 December 2012 - Wangaratta

NE Diamonds v.  North-west Wanderers

This final gala weekend of the 2012 VCL season was a great experience.  We knew the game against North-west Wanderers was going to be a real test.  They had beaten Loddon Mallee and the game proved a worthy challenge as they played  a good passing game and were very strong at the ball.

Losing Harriet Cordner, our central defender to injury in the first stages of the game was unfortunate.  We probably did not play our best in the first half but we were able to regain our composure in the second half playing out from the back and passing to feet.

Our teamwork created many opportunities and eventually we were able to score through Emma Heckenburg.  Good sides win and draw more than they lose. We really wanted to be better than just a good side and winning the right way was important to us.

All the girls showed that even after a hard season we could be strong in defence, work the midfield and create enough forward pressure on goal to get there. Our player depth meant we could cover the positions and our fitness showed at the end.

Well done to both teams it was great game.
