Round 6

Round 6 Match Reports: Southern Cross Strikers v North West Wanderers

Under 13 Boys

Our boys were under pressure early on in our defensive half.  The opposition were very skilled at running down the wings. Our defence combined well to stop consistent attacks on goal and played the ball beautifully out from the back. Halftime score Three Nil.

The second-half saw great save by Will, then Jesse made a great dive to save a certain follow up shot.

One of our players was taken down outside the box. A free kick to Alex just missed over the top.

Final score 5-0

U14 boys

After a slow start with lots of ball movement on the pitch the Wanderers scored the first goal in the 16th minute of the first half.

The Strikers midfielders had their work cut out for them as an in form Wanderers won the ball back again and again.

Some fantastic work by Josh de Voogel saw the ball moved into the Strikers attacking half many times but a goal just wasn't to be.

Defensively the Strikers had a hard job ahead of them as they were challenged by the Wanderers attacking line.  Ryan Schorback in goals had one of his busiest games of the season with some wonderful saves.

In the second half some good running on the wings by Zak McAninly and Liam Dawson saw the ball again hitting our attacking zone with a goal finally coming in the 22nd minute to Liam Dawson.

A hard game for the boys going down 7 - 1 to the Wanderers.

U15 Boys

A tough game against a quality opposition saw the U15 Boys fight out a 5-0 loss.

U15 Girls

Sunday’s game against the Northwest Wanderers was definitely a case of the one that got away! The strikers made a strong start to the game with a number of promising attacking moves down the right wing putting the opposition keeper under a lot of pressure. Despite dominating much of the play the half time score was 1-1. The girls continued to play well in the second half and with only looked like posting their first win of the season. Unfortunately a couple of defensive lapses allowed Northwest Wanderers to snatch a 4-3 victory. Despite the result there many positives to take away from the game.

U17 Girls

After having a bye last week the U17 girls were keen to hit the pitch hard against the higher placed North West Wanderers.

It was clear from the start that it was going to be an equally matched game however goals from Lulu Al-Huneidi and Courtney Farrell had the Strikers 2 - 1 at half time.

The second half saw the Wanderers throw everything at the Strikers however the safe hands of keeper Jasmina Zdelar, a strong defence and quick midfield managed to hold them out to a final score of Strikers 3 Wanderers 2.

U17 Boys

A quality performance by the talented U17 squad saw a convincing win of 6-1 against the North West Wanderers.
