18th April 2012
A combined Lake Macquarie & Balmain Dockers under 16’s & 18’s squad made their way to Perth last Thursday to play in the Fremantle Partner Club Challenge at Subiaco Oval.
Forty-eight people made the trip to Perth to play in the Fremantle Partner Club Challenge arriving late on Thursday night. The following morning at the conclusion of a team meeting the players were presented with their playing strip kindly donated by the Integrated Programmed Maintenance Group. The squad was then off on a short walk to the ABC Studios in East Perth to be met by Balmain Dockers Number One Ticket Holder and ABC commentator Clint Wheeldon. The boys were shown many aspects of the radio and television station.
After a quick lunch break the boys headed down to the park adjacent the Swan River for 2 hour training and team bonding session. Early Friday afternoon, we all ventured down to Fremantle to meet with the Fremantle Dockers who gave the boys a look through the Dockers training facility and were shown a behind the scenes film about match day preparation of the Fremantle Dockers . We all enjoyed a BBQ with the Dockers rookie players, who gave our boys a fantastic insight into what it takes to become an AFL drafted before setting off to Medibank Stadium to watch the clash between Subiaco and East Fremantle which featured many current AFL listed players. The boys were guests of both clubs and the WAFL. In a close encounter, Subiaco ran out winners.
Up early on Saturday morning for a players meeting with the coaches, Tony Kibler, Steve Thurlby and Darren Lewtus as Saturday was match day and the boys were nervous at playing at one of Australia’s Premier Stadiums. They made their way onto Paterson Stadium and greeted the other team the Doncaster Dockers and the umpires to play the Curtain Raiser to the Fremantle Dockers and the Brisbane Lions.
In their distinctive purple outfit the boys played wonderful football throughout to run out winners by 64 points and at the conclusion of the game both teams ran a lap of Subiaco to be greeted by applause by the assembled throng! The NSW Dockers had won the Partner Club Challenge. After the game the boys were able to watch the Fremantle Dockers V Brisbane Lions game which Fremantle won comfortably. The boys were then treated to Dinner at Subiaco Oval and following a few songs the Fremantle Dockers Community Partnership Manager was presented with a game ball signed by the NSW Dockers tour party.
On the Sunday, the boys undertook a recovery session at the famous Cottosloe Beach before competing in the brand new “Fremantle Fives” training based game competition at the home of the Fremantle City Dockers Hilton Park South Fremantle. Teams from partner clubs in WA, Victoria and NSW competed in this wonderful concept with the final being played between the NSW Dockers No. 4 team and the Secret Harbour Dockers from WA. Our No 4 team won the game convincingly and were presented a plying jumper by the Fremantle Dockers a To finish the day off, 50 people attended a Dinner hosted by Subiaco President Neil Randell and his hotel- the Paddington Ale House at Mt Hawthorn.
Many thanks to all the parents that assisted over the weekend with a number of roles from running water to strapping the players. It was an enjoyable trip with plans already in place for our 2013 trip

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------LAKE MACQUARIE PARTICIPATE IN THE FREMANTLE vs SYDNEY GAME AT THE SCG ON SUNDAY
What a great weekend for the club and our partnership with the Fremantle Dockers. 21 of our Junior kids formed a guard of honor for the Fremantle Dockers when they ran out on the SCG on Sunday in front of 23,000 strong crowd. It was a special moment for our under 10's player Max Kozlic who was the Fremantle Dockers mascot and ran out with Mathew Pavlich and the team onto the SCG and helped out the team during their warm up. Max was presented a Fremantle jumper and full playing outfit by the team. If looked closely you would have noticed the trainer with number 4 on his shirt that was our clubs Physio Michael. What a great opportunity for Michael to spend the day with the Fremantle Dockers players as one of the clubs trainers and to run around during the match as a club trainer. To top off the day our club President John Relic and Andrew Druwitt were invited into the Dockers rooms at the end of the day to experience an enthusiastic team after a good win over the Swans. The funniest highlight to the day was having Damo dress up as Johnny Docker and run around the ground plus participate in the celebrity goal kicking challenge for RedKite. Well done to all and a big thank you to the parents who travelled to Sydney on the day 'GO THE DOCKER

The Lake Macquarie Australian Football Club has been awarded Bronze level accreditation as part of the AFL Quality Club Program.
The AFL Quality Club Program helps community football clubs improve their administrativeoperations and overall club environment, which ultimately benefits all club participants – whether they are a player, spectator or volunteer. The program achieves this by providing the opportunity for all clubs throughout NSW and the ACT to benchmark theirclub operations and administration via a ranking system.
Other benefits of participating in the Quality Club program include:
- Providing an environment which helps attract new participants, officials, members and sponsors, as well as retaining those the club already has;
- Creating a best practice guide for club committees;
- Minimising many risks associated with running a sporting club; and
- Participating in a sport that can continue to promote itself as a leading sport where quality is valued highly.
To achieve the Bronze status under the Quality Club Program is another step in securing the longevity of the club and demonstrates the commitment and hard work displayed by our past and present officials and volunteers. said Lake Macquarie Dockers Football Manager Andrew Druwitt.
AFL (NSW/ACT) Community Football Manager, Andrew Knott, stated that strengthening clubs at grass-roots level is an important objective of the AFL. “It is widely acknowledged that community football clubs and leagues are the foundation of Australian football, and that the future growth of the game will depend on the strength and viability of community football. With this in mind, AFL NSW/ACT is striving to assist community football clubs to enhance their operations for the betterment of football,” said Mr Knott.
UMPIRES NEEDED!
The league requires past players to step and take on an umpiring role.
NO UMPIRES means NO GAME. If you are keen for a challenge to become either a goal,
boundary or field umpire please see Andrew Druwitt for details.

Lake Macquarie AFC has great pleasure in announcing a formal partnership with AFL Club Fremantle Dockers and Sydney AFL Club Balmain Dockers. Lake Macquarie AFC will now become part of the Australia wide “Docker network” which Fremantle has great pride in initiating. In the partnership, the Lake Macquarie AFL juniors will have the opportunity of meeting with Fremantle Dockers players, coaching staff and officials when Fremantle play the Sydney Swans in July at the SCG.
The opportunities provided to our club by the Fremantle and Balmain Dockers are second to none. Our players, both junior and senior will have a new exciting football pathway. This is a great opportunity for our coaches and committee as they will have unlimited resources available to them, through direct access to the Fremantle Dockers and former Sydney Swans and Balmain coaches and players Nick Fosdike, Jason Saddington and Nick Davis. We still have junior coaching positions available so this is a great opportunity to join the Lake Macquarie AFC and gain your coaching skills from the Fremantle and Balmain Dockers coaching group. Our under 16’s & 18’s players will have the opportunity to travel to WA and spend a weekend at the Dockers and play in an exhibition match prior to a Fremantle game. To become part of an AFL Club as exciting as Fremantle secures the Lake Macquarie Football Club as a prominent AFL Club in the Newcastle, Central Coast and Hunter Regions.
This is a big step in our young history and will see us adopt the Fremantle playing strip and club colours as we become the Lake Macquarie Dockers.
New players of all ages are welcome
