What a day for both grades as MFC teach Mudgeeraba a footballing lesson!

Both grades turned on some fantastic football last Saturday away to Mudgeeraba, comfortably winning both grades. The 1st team played some of their best football of the season to put the much talked about Mudgeeraba squad to the sword coming out victors 3-1. In a first half display that produced some of the best football seen on the Gold Coast in many a year Murwillumbah created chance after chance but luckily enough for the shell shocked Mudgee the score ended at HT only 2-0 to MFC. The contest was soon over in the second half as MFC got a third with Mudgee finishing up with a consolation penalty late on in the piece.

Murwillumbah put on a masterclass - MFC 5 Southport 0

In a game where MFC barely got out of 2nd gear it was still brilliant football to watch as our first team toyed with their opponents and kept possession for very long passages of play. In a game of two halves MFC bounced back from a disappointing 1st half to completely dominate their opponents in the second clawing back a 2 goal deficit to finish up 4-4. MFC and Broadbeach draw 1-1 in a bruising encounter

In a top of the table clash last Friday night MFC and Broadbeach played out a one-all draw meaning MFC keep their 5 point gap at the top and also maintain their unbeaten record. In a game where the tackles were flying in thick and fast from both sides it was MFC who got the first goal courtesy of a neat flick from Justin Tannock onto Chris Garside who finished clinically in the bottom left corner. MFC went into the sheds at HT one up but encountered an even more determined Broadbeach side in the second half desperate to close the gap at the top. Broadbeach marginally had the better of a torrid second half battle equalising with a well taken free kick. MFC's rock solid defence still has only conceded 2 goals all season from general play with the opposition mainly having to rely on free kicks and penalties to break down our very strong back four. At the end a draw was probably a fair result but MFC came ever so close with a couple of one on one opportunities towards the end that were stared down by the Broadbeach keeper. Although MFC may be a little bit frustrated that they never played their best football in the second half it was still an excellent result to come away with a point from Broadbeach who had so much to play for.

Murwillumbah trounce the Knights 6-0

It was another dominant display from our Premier League 1st Team who came out victors 6 nil. The Gold Coast Knights could not live with Murwillumbah and received a footballing lesson. MFC's keeper, Nathan Wilson, had very little to do while Murwillumbah played intense possession football knocking the ball about and making the opposition work hard. Goals were scored by Luke Morley, Troy Ruthven, Chris Garside, Keanu Sparkes-Young and two from man of the match Simon Hurcombe. MFC stay on top by 5 points to Broadbeach who lie in second place. This sets up a massive fixture with Broadbeach this Friday night at their place with both teams anxious to make a statement on who is more likely to be challenging for the Premiership come the end of the season. This is a 6 point fixture if ever there was one! Reserve grade went down 2-1 in a tough and very close encounter. MFC dominated possession but unfortunately it wasn't their day in the final third.

MFC claim the 3 points against Palm Beach in a hard fought fixture

In as tough a game MFC have faced this season MFC did just enough to get a win against a very hard working Palm Beach side. It was down to some very solid defending and clinical finishing which finally meant MFC came out on top and kept up their unbeaten record. A penalty from Troy Ruthven and two from man of the match, Luke Morley, saw off a very sharp and determined Palm Beach side. On a day when the side did not fire on all cylinders it was very satisfying to still come out on top and stretch out there lead at the top with one of the following group Burleigh Heads dropping two points at the Knights. It is a fantastic position for the club to be in and one that means that we will have a target on our backs as others look to topple our unbeaten record and incredible start to the season. Keep it up lads! Reserve grade were unfortunately on the end of a hammering against league leaders Palm Beach. With players unavailable and one being sent off in the first half it was an even tougher prospect. With a full strength squad the team is sure to bounce back. Keep the heads up lads!

MFC March On!

Tonight MFC dealt a crushing 8-1 defeat to last years premiers, Merrimac. In a game that MFC dominated from start to finish the victory never looked in doubt. At 2-0 MFC were in cruise control and moving the ball slickly around the park. MFC's cause was helped by Merrimac's indiscipline who had two players sent off before the break. Again it was a superb team performance with each player winning the individual battles and getting on top of their opposite number. Goals were shared across the team with 2 each from Troy Ruthven, Luke Morley and Chris Garside whilst Simon Hurcombe and Bryce Tory also chipped in with one each. Joel Saye and Mathew Peate were once again outstanding in defence and never gave Merrimac's attack a look in. It was a great way to bounce back after the very tough news during the week that one of our stand out performers of the season so far, Alex Thelwall, suffered a season ending knee injury. That one was for you Alex! Everyone at MFC wishes you all the best and know you will come back better than ever.

The MFC juggernaut keeps rolling!

In a fitting tribute to the memory of Sam whose life was commemorated in an emotional presentation prior to kick off MFC turned in another very solid display coming out victors by 3 goals to 1 against the much fancied Mudgeeraba side. Goals by Simon Hurcombe, Luke Morley and Troy Ruthven were enough to see off a determined and capable Mudgee side. MFC were the better side throughout but the win was hard earned and not clear until the final 10 minutes. Once again MFC's defence was superb with Shaun Core at left back taking out the man of the match award. MFC Ressies had a tough shift and were on the receiving end of a 4-2 defeat.
