LIFE MEMBERS:
Congratulations to the following names who have been inducted as life members of the Hurstbridge Football Club, when you look up at the honour board as it is there are some very popular names and the 3 people that were inducted last night are very deserving of the honour and we look forward to seeing them around the club for many years to come. Well done:
Steve Grimes - Steve has been junior treasurer of the club for the past 10 years which is a massive commitment from an executive position point of view. Steve always puts his hand up to help out on game days which is always a bonus whether it was boundary umpire, water boy, time keeper or goal umpire. Steve has 5 sons playing football, all coming through the junior ranks of football - Nathan, Jack, Dylan, Aaron and Tom. All of his boys have had their share of success with the club, notably Jack now a senior player at the Melbourne Football Club and Nathan being in the 2003 HFC senior premiership side.
Brendan Caldwell - Fritz's honour is overdue, he first started at the club in 1970 and hasn't left since, his played football for 10-15 years and later on in life became a junior coach coaching many teams to finals series and even Grand Finals. Fritz has had 2 sons come through the junior ranks and both have played senior football being Sean and John. John Caldwell was 2nd best and fairest for the seniors on the night his father became a life member. And if Fritz's Sainters get up today for him would be the icing on the cake.
Ralph Westlake - Ralph has been involved with the senior and junior club now for many years and has always been a loyal servant of the club. All of Ralphs children played junior football, Drew, Rhy, Pierce and Echoe. Ralph coached junior football for a few years taking one team all way and winning the premiership. While Ralphs children no longer play for the club he has continued a massive commitment to the senior club being club president for the past 4 years with his wife Maxine as Secretary by his side. Ralph has played a big role in transforming the club spending the recent pre-season building the coaches and time keepers boxes during the heatwave of the cricket season and the club looks so much better now for it especially seeing the electronic scoreboard in action now. Well done Ralph.
BEST CLUBMAN - 2009
Gary Jenkins - Outgoing junior president Gary Jenkins was this year awarded the best clubman award having been in charge of the juniors for the past 3 seasons and putting in alot of time and money with the club room renovations, as a result the rooms have never looked better. Gary will continue duties as a junior committee member next year which is a credit to him and we look forward to seeing him around the club for many years to come.
