The start of the 2010 campaign starts in earnest this Saturday with the first official training session at Weir Reserve, Bruce Neale Drive, Penrith from 9:30 AM.
Seniors coach Kevin Tate is pleased to announce the appointment of 2009 coach, Lachlan Smith as his assistant coach this year. Lachlan took the club to five wins last season, a marked improvement on the previous years and the coaching staff are looking at continuing to improve the "strike rate" with expectations of finals football under the new club structure. Leadership groups have been appointed for both seniors and juniors with well respected players such as Grant Kells, John Keane and David Cummings along with Smith being named. In the Reserves, Mark Jackson and club record holder Jason Ware will be leading the way with many new players expected to be experiencing AFL football.
The 18's are well equipped under the guidance of premiership winning coaches, Craig Sharp and Geoff Payne with talented and enthusiastic players leading the squad such as Matty Payne, Harley Stibbard, Daniel Schroot, Adam Sharp and Jack Ponton in what is shaping up to be an exciting era for the team after last seasons magnificent record.
The club will not become complacent in attracting players. "Geographically, it is a tough assignment to attract players outside the area" Kevin Tate commented. "We have lost a wealth of junior talent in the past to other clubs. We will be working extremely hard in the future to retain and develop these players. Our goal is to make the Rams a club where players want to go, not just because they are local to us and expected to come"
