The idea was floated during 2011 and already there has been a strong interest with the team training for the last three weeks. The Ramettes, the only new team accepted to play in 2012, become the 11th team in the competition. Other sides are:
- Macquarie University Warriors
- Auburn Tigers
- Balmain Dockers
- Bondi Shamrocks
- Uni NSW Bulldogs
- Newtown Breakers
- Southern Power (Sutherland)
- Sydney University
- Wollongong Lions
- Western Wolves (Ashfield)
"It is a significent milestone in the history of Western Sydney Football" commented Chairman Kevin Tate. "The formation of the team opens up opportunity for Women of the West to participate in Australia's national game. Previously girls had to leave the sport after Under 14's but the formation of the Ramettes now allows them to represent their region in the Sydney Wide competition"
The competition recently came under the control of Sydney AFL after many years being run by the SWAFL.
The club is actively seeking new players to participate. For most, it will be a new experience. Registration details will be finalised shortly. Training is expected to re-commence in late January with the competion expected to commence in late March/early April.
