Round 2
18-19 April
Brad Abbot (Super)
The Bulldogs (1st grade) took on reigning premiers Pennant Hills last Sunday, in dreadful conditions, with the wind blowing harder than Terry Mudge after a stair climb. It was a hard fought, physical contest, and the Dogs were lucky to get away with a win.
Realistically, if Penno kicked more accurately, we would have got pumped. Despite this, there were a number of solid performers for the Dogs, with Playerss Player for the day being awarded to Peter Kefalas, in a close decision over fellow migrant, Jason Coulloupas.
This decision was not without controversy, however, but a quick check of the Players Player rules was undertaken and it was confirmed that you can, in fact, vote for yourself and Kefalas was subsequently presented with the award. Unfortunately, his acceptance speech was missed by all those present who could not speak Greek.
Second grade continued their winning ways, and the 3s absolutely smashed their competition, despite coach Shaun 'Sherminator' Fewings being spotted taking notes during '2008 SFL Coach of the Year (Trademark) Terry Mudge's pre and post-game addresses. Unless the notes were of the 'how not to' variety, this practice must be stopped, should the 3s want to have any success this year. See below for a full report on the 3s.
Our under 18s had a narrow loss to Penno and our 4s went down to Sydney Uni at St Pauls on the Saturday. Click here for a full report of the game. The Stingrays had a forfeit but won the scratch match.
In other news, new recruit Mike Showboat' Beardsley is in doubt for next week's match against Wollongong, as he races
the clock to have his brand new white boots clean in time. Should he turn up, the club will need to rally around Beardsley on the track this week, who is fresh from the disappointment of having to get muddy during the televised Foxtelgame of the week.
A very big thank you to the lovely Georgette Higgins and her not so better half Higgo for selling raffle tickets all day. The hamper was donated by Raffles and Willy and raised good $$ for the club. Also, thank you to all who helped out (especially the 3s who hung around long after their game) with time keeping, running water and cooking the BBQ, it was a good start to the season for our first home game. Round 3
(25-26 April) is ANZAC DAY with U18 and seniors/reserves hosting Wollongong at the VG on 25th and 3s and 4s playing on Sunday 26th also at the VG. We will send out more information regarding ANZAC day this week but key words are 'footy', 'VG', '2up' and 'Doncaster' so keep it free.
