The Dogs travelled to Drummoyne to take on the Dockers on Saturday, keen to make amends for a poor showing in round 5.
With Captain David Coupe still sidelined and 'spiritual leader' Lethal Leigh Lavery out indefinitely following complications from hemorrhoid surgery, the Dogs turned to youth and brought Troy Luff back into the side.
After getting away to a comfortable lead, the Dogs took the foot off the pedal and allowed the Dockers to get back into the contest. Supercoach Terry Mudge was rightly unimpressed with his charges and gave those unfortunate enough to be within earshot (everyone in a 6 suburb radius) a first hand glimpse of his impressive collection of expletives.
Perhaps awestruck by the sheer volume and variety of swear words Mudge managed to fit into the 3 quarter time speech, the Dogs allowed the Dockers to score the first 2 goals of the last quarter, before steadying and securing a 31 point win.
Best for the Dogs were Marc O'Regan and Earl Shaw, whilst Mike "Have I told you I was Jonathan Brown's Best Man?" Beardsley also performed well. Some would question a player's decision to collate a personal highlights package to the tunes of Tina Turner's "Simply the Best" and email it to prospective clubs prior to moving to a new city, but Beardsley appears immune to the pressure associated with his lofty self-imposed reputation and is to be applauded.
