The Sandringham
Football Club mourns the loss of respected club legend Neil Bencraft.
Neil played 140 games
and kicked 227 goals in a career stretching from 1945 – 1956. He won the Best
and Fairest in 1945 and was runner-up for the Liston Trophy in 1956, a member
of the first Sandringham senior premiership
side in 1946 and grand final side in 1947. He captain-coached Sandringham
Reserves in 1956 and 1957. Neil coached the seniors from 1958 to 1962 and again
in 1974 for one premiership (the clubs second in 1962) and runners-up (1960).
He coached Sandringham Thirds from 1971 to 1973 and from 1975 to 1983 for 5
premierships and two runners up. He was a life member of the VFA Thirds, he is
a member of the Sandringham “Team of the Century”, was the first person
inducted into the Sandringham “Hall of Fame” and the Best and Fairest Trophy is
named after him.

The funeral service
for Mr Neil Bencraft will leave Le Pine Chapel, cnr McDonald and Barkly Sts,
Mordialloc on Friday October 15, after a service commencing at 2:00pm for the Cheltenham Memorial Cemetery,
Reserve Rd Cheltenham (arriving approx. 3.30pm).
