Detective Superintendent Ryan has served with Victoria Police for over 40 years. During his distinguished career he has led a number of high profile criminal investigations involving serious and organised crime, counter terrorism and corruption. He has made a significant contribution to developing the Victoria Police Crime Department and to leading change through the implementation of the Major Crime Management Model and establishing the Armed Crime Task Force. Detective Superintendent Ryan is well respected as a mentor and role model within Victoria Police. Throughout, he has had an unwavering commitment to supporting and developing police employees and providing encouragement to help them reach their potential. He has also worked unselfishly and tirelessly to lend his support and leadership skills to numerous community and charitable causes to raise money for charity. He has devoted many years in working to improve the lives of disadvantaged young people as well as those with intellectual disabilities and mental illnesses. He has served Victoria Police and the community with distinction over many years.
Gerry was Awarded the Australian Police Medal in the Australia Day Awards which is the highest police award in Australia. This medal will be presented to him by the Governor at Government House in May 2011.
