League Men – Round 16 - Thursday – Eagles v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels continue to march up the ladder after they outgunned the league leading Eagles 92-79. Not only did they win their 5th game out of the last 6, but they celebrated a milestone for Rebel stalwart Jamie Hamill who was playing his 700th League game! The Rebels fittingly dropped 14 treys on the Eagles (Hamill’s forte) and also held the league’s leading scorer, Alex Fertig, to just 12 points, well below his 36ppg average. Jerrell Sanders (26ppg) led the Rebels with 26 (his average) and he had plenty of backup from Jake Kirby (16ppg) & Chad Bewley (21 each) and 11 from Hamill. The Rebels charged out to a 21-14 first quarter lead, built it up to a 44-38 buffer by half time and then held the Birds to just 14 in the third quarter while scoring 23. The lead was 15 with a quarter to go (67-52) and proved too much for the Birds to overcome. The last shot of the game was a three pointer from…Hamill. Other Eagles scorers were Joseph Johnson (23.5ppg) who led the side with 21, 19 to Jesse Williams-Hook and 13 for Jordan Sing.

For the record: Hamill has been in 10 Grand Finals and on the winning side 8 times. 4 wins in each of the seasons – Challenge & Championship. This is his 25th year in League play. Jamie set the original record for most treys in a season back in 2001…he hit 51. And he continues to let fly from outside the arc. He has played 576 games for the Rebels, 116 for South Darwin and 8 for the Eagles.
