League Men-TV Jets Vs Uni Rebels
Uni Rebels League Men secured their first win of the season after downing TV Jets 63 to 57 last Friday night. Uni Rebels jumped out to a great start with the return of livewire guard Lance Schmidt Jr scoring the first 5 pts of the game for Rebels, Lance came back to the side after a year away from the game. But TV Jets weathered Rebels fast start and ended the first quarter 20 to 20. Also returning to Rebels League side after being away from the game for seven years is St Mary's ruckman Ryan Smith who was very instrumental for Uni Rebels bringing a great defensive presence and scoring power in the paint. With good communication in defense and patience on the offensive side Rebels ended the half with a 35 to 24 lead only allowing TV Jets 4 pts in the quarter. But in the third quarter TV Jets fought back and chipped away on the Rebels lead and finished with 45 to 40. Uni Rebels had to re-group in the last quarter and manage to maintain the lead and finish the game with a 63 to 57 win. Lance Schmidt Jr lead the scoring with 15pts supported by Ryan Smith with 14pts and making his debut for Rebels League Men is Shannon Bartlett with 12pts. Captain Jake Kirby had a quiet 8pts while directing the offence and leading the team towards the win.
League Women - TV Jets Vs Uni Rebels
An entertaining encounter showed a valiant Uni Rebels Women side went down to TV Jets 34 to 48. The young Rebels came out in the first quarter and tried to match TV Jets point for point and finished with 11 to 12. With a never quit attitude Rebels Women keep battling in the second quarter led by Shavayah Lee (10pts) and Ieasha Friel (8pts), they ended the half 17 to 24. Budding Twin Towers Tiyana Sing (5pts) and Kaitey Whittaker (2pts) where fantastic in controlling the boards and changing shots but the experienced TV Jets just keep building their lead and ended the third quarter 24 to 40. Going in to the last quarter the spirited Rebels side did not let down the effort and kept competing to the last second and finished the game 34 to 48. Returning to Rebels was Sarah Hagan (2pts) brought hight and experience to the side unfortunately injured her left knee in the second quarter but still tried to get back in the game to help the team battle back.
