League Men - Uni Rebels Vs TV Jets
Uni Rebels Men went up against bottom dwellers TV Jets last Friday night, but another bad start for Rebels showed them to be behind 2 points to TV Jets coming out with an effective press to end the first quarter 19 to 21. Uni Rebels made the adjustments and broke the TV Jets press and stared to find the basket to take the lead in the second quarter, Rebels Men extended the lead to 8 points as they ended the first half 52 to 44. Uni Rebels poured in 37 points in the third quarter and went in to the last quarter 89 to 62. Led by Rebels Import Shian Bradshaw (42pts) and supported by Derrick Scott (19pts), Jason Nwisienyi (15pts), Henry Callander (13pts) and Rebels Captain Jake Kirby (12); Uni Rebels cruised past TV Jets to take the win 114 to 85. Next Uni Rebels League Men game will be Saturday February 2, 2019 against Lightning.
League Women - TV Jets Vs Uni Rebels
A replay of last season's Grand Final showed Jets womens took the lead early in the game going into the first break 14 - 8. Coaches Brendan Lee and Simon Hamill asked the girls for more defensive pressure and more movement on offensive. Once again captain Chantelle Lee lead from the front and the young Rebels followed. Defensive pressure lifted and the run on the transition gave the ladies a 30 - 28 lead going into the main break.
Coach Hamill told the girls to keep running and that the defence was good. The 3rd quarter saw the rebels womens battle it out to take a 42 - 41 going into the last.
Coaches expressed that defense wins games and the baskets will come. Captain Lee once again showed the way at both ends of the court leading the women's to get a 7 point lead early in the last. The movement on offensive then opened up the court for the ladies and then baskets followed jumping out to a 19pt lead late into the last. The ladies coming away with a 67 - 56 win.
Coach Lee has welcomed Simon Hamill with open arms as an assistant as he adds another dimension to the game.
Leadership of Chantelle, Mishy and Danielle gave the young brigade Ieasha, Shavayah, TJ, kayllah and Toya opportunities to transition.
In just her 2nd game for the club Dustie Mare was solid in rebounding and providing much needed height.
An emotional win for the ladies as it was TJ last game for the club as she will be attending boarding school next year. That was also Mishy last game for this season as she is pregnant. The club wishes TJ and mishy all the best for the future and hope to see them back in the red white and blue soon.
Last game of the year and did the ladies turn it on. That makes 3 on the trot for the rebels womens going into the Christmas break.
