League Men - Uni Rebels Vs Ansett
A highly anticipated game between Uni Rebels and Ansett last Friday night with a capacity crowd in attendance to see the Darwin Basketball League game of the week. Ansett came out the blocks with the first two baskets of the game, Rebels Men's took abit of time to find their rhythm and defensive intensity to try and close the Ansett lead 24 to 31 to end the first quarter. Rebels defense started to click in the second quarter and managed to tie the game up to finish the first half 44 to 44. With starters Jake Kirby and Jason Goodwin away this week for Uni Rebels, the team was captained by Jason Nwisienyi and did a great job anchoring the defense for the side and Rebels Junior player Daniel Yak started for the League side for the first time. Uni Rebels matched Ansett point for point and ended the third quarter 63 to 63. An entertaining fourth quarter showed both teams put up 16 points each and and finished regulation with a 79 to 79 tie to go to overtime. The Uni Rebels defensive presure amped up in extra time and held Ansett to just 5 points to Rebels' 19 points. Rebels offensive output was spearheaded by Jay Hardy (38pts) and Jason Nwisienyi (30pts) and supported by Erick Klenke (10pts) and Adrian Murphy (8pts); Uni Rebels ran away with a convincing win 98 to 84 to defeat Ansett and take a share of second place on the ladder. Next Uni Rebels League Men game will be Saturday March 2, 2019 against Palmerston.
League Women - Uni Rebels Vs Razzle
After a slow start the Rebels Women went into the first break with a 21 - 12 lead. Defensive pressure lifted and so did the run on transition. Ieasha friel and Toya Norris started to find space on some solid rebounds from Patricia Graham and Chantelle Lee. Buzzer beater from Sarah Hagan gave Rebels a 12 point lead at the main break. The second half the ladies started to find some rhythm but as they did Razzle would find away to find baskets. In the end Rebels finished the game 22 point winners. Leaders Chantelle Lee and Patricia were solid so as always. Ieasha (28) and Chantelle (11) top scored. Next game is against Jets on Saturday
