League Men - Uni Rebels Vs Palmerston
Uni Rebels Mens could not wait for this match Friday night to give payback for the 5-point first round lost they suffered under Palmerston, Rebels jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game and held that advantage for most of the game. Defense was intense for both side which made it a low scoring game to start. Rebels held Palmerston to single digits in the first quarter and finished 18 to 9.
Rebels leading scorer Lawrance Triplett (26pts) steered the Rebels team to focus hard on defense and making great plays in the offensive end with 16 rebounds, 5 assists and a steals. But Palmerston found momentum in the second quarter and started to chip away on the Rebels lead midway through the second quarter, Rebels regained composure was able to maintain the lead and finished the first half with an 11-point lead over Palmerston 35 to 24 which are way below both teams averages.
Uni Rebels opend the flood gates in third quarter and had 31-point quarter behind the hot shooting of Team Captain Jake Kirby (15pts) who hit four consecutive three pointers in the third quarter and gave Uni Rebels more breathing room and a 20-point advantage going in to the fourth quarter 66 to 46.
Uni Rebels Head Coach Mike Nixon kept the side's defensive intensity on point and made some timley in game adjustments to keep the momentum on Un Rebels' side. With Palmerston import Willie Shackleford kept in check thanks to the Rebels big men Daniel Green (23pts), 18 rebounds and Eric Klenke (10 pts) and a huge block against Shackleford; Uni Rebels was able to limit Palmerstons scoring options and get control of the game. Uni Rebels Men's hard work on defense paid off and finished the game 90 to 74. The win gives Uni Rebels Men sole possesion of third place going in the the 3 week break. Rebels League Men next game will be against TV Jets and a chance to move up to second place.
