League Men - Uni Rebels Vs TV Essington

An important game for Uni Rebels against Essington to secure sole possesion of 2nd place on the ladder last Saturday night. Uni Rebels missing key players Jason Goodwin and Shannon Bartlett both unavailable for last night's game. Rebels went point for point with TV Jets in the first 5 minutes of the game going out to a 5-5 deadlock. Then Rebels Men turned on the defensive intensity for the last five minutes of the first quarter and went on a 24-7 run, Rebels was able to find it's offense and closed out the first quarter 29 to 12.

Rebels top scorer Lawrance Triplett (39pts) spearheaded the Rebels offense by orchestrating plays and also pitching in 11 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals. But Essington found momentum in the second quarter and started to chip away on the Uni Rebels lead, Uni Rebels struggled to get control of the game and finished the first half with just a 15-point lead after leading by 27 points. Uni Rebels finished the first half 53 to 38 which is still in-line with their scoring average.

Uni Rebels defensive focus was off to start the third quarter and Essington capitlized on this and kept chipping away on the Rebels lead and went on to outscore Rebels 29-19. Uni Rebels' defense was feeling the absence of Rebels defensive stalwart Jason Goodwin. Rebels Men was kept afloat by the hot shooting of Team Captain Jake Kirby (20pts) who hit six three pointers in the game and 6 steals that gave Uni Rebels a little 5-point advantage going in to the fourth quarter 72 to 67.

Uni Rebels Head Coach Mike Nixon's three quarter time talk refocused the squad and started to find momentum in the fourth quarter and started to go on a little run; Daniel Green (21pts) and 20 rebounds, Eric Klenke (7pts) and 6 rebounds and Adrian Murphy (6pts) and 6 rebounds all pitched in to put together a strong fourth quarter finish. Essington young gun James Toohey (30pts) caused problems to the Rebels defense. But Uni Rebels Men's hard work in the last quarter paid off and finished the game 102 to 88. The win gives Uni Rebels Men sole possesion of second place and just two wins behind first place Razzle. Rebels League Men's next game will be against Lightning this Thursrday night at 8:30pm on Crt 1.
