Kennedy was drafted by Hawthorn in 2002 NAB AFL Draft under the father-son rule with pick No.40 overall. Kennedy debuted for the Hawks in 2008 against Melbourne, Keneddy stayed at the hawks until the end of 2009 when he was traded by the Hawks to the Sydney Swans for pick No.39. Kennedy had a good year last year for the swans coming third in thier best and fairest and has continued to rise this year as a stand out midfielder for the swans playing all twelve games this year.
