Team selection policy

Team selections are the sole responsibility of the respectve Coordinators in consultation with Coaches and the Club President.

Players who are considered unfinancial will not be placed in a team.

Coordinators will select each seasons teams having consideration for the following:

–    Each player’s skills and abilities based on Coordinators and Coaches assessment

–    Each player’s ability to cope at a particular Grade Level

–    Each player’s age and overall basketball experience

–    Each player’s dedication and behaviour at training and during games

–    Overall team balance (Number of talls, smalls, ball carriers, scorers etc.)

Nearing the end of each season, all coaches are required to submit to the Coordinators their feedback on each player from their team. To keep this process as fair as possible, giving all players equal opportunity, Coaches are not allowed to select their own teams for the coming season.

With players moving in and out of the Club each season, a players place in a particular team cannot be guaranteed from one season to another. Each season is looked at with ‘fresh eyes’ to accommodate player movement in and out of the Club and individual improvement in some players.

In Under 8 teams only, where finals are not played, consideration may be given to other factors such as player friendships and parental convenience, however this will not be guaranteed and will not be done if it is detrimental or unfair to another player.

Teams will generally consist of 6 to 8 players. On rare occasions, where there is no other option, 9 players may be placed in a team.

Junior players may be invited to play a second game in a higher age group if a vacancy exists.

In accordance with DVBA By-Laws they will be restricted to playing in a team one age group higher.

If you have any questions regarding this process please contact the Club Coordinators or Club President as listed on our website.
