Well after an extended break with both Easter and the Bye combined for most players, it was great to get back into the swing of things last weekend.
The Netball Girls were finally tested after having 2 fairly convincing wins. This time against Greensborough the girls triumphed by a narrow 2 points. A game of great intensity and thrills (I’m told as I had to ring in “sick”), the Burra Babes showed plenty of G&D like their male counterparts and eventually came out victors. Well done again ladies and good luck next week against Epping (7.00pm RMIT ).
The 19’s only had the Easter Break to get over the poor performance from the previous week against Etham and show Sheildsy that they are better than that performance. We traveled out to Lalor where we met a very strong outfit and although we weren’t headed all day, Lalor showed plenty of determination to come back at us in the last quarter.
Our boys were a different outfit completely to the team the previous week and congratulations must go out to you all on a great turnaround. Whilst Shieldsy will probably say you guys can still improve considerably, he would be proud of your effort nonetheless. Well done fellas and bring it home again next week at Home against a team we haven’t beaten yet in Diamond Creek.
The Rezzies continued on their winning way with a strong performance against a much improved Parkside twos side. Our boys also teamed well together for most of the day and will continue to improve each week under Phil’s instruction. Magnificent effort boys in stringing together two victories in a row.
The ones had a chance to show all just how much we had improved by playing one of last year’s grand finalists. The game started well for the first few minutes but all of a sudden the Devils piled on a few quick ones and memories of last year’s demolition started flooding back. The quarter finished 5.8 to 5 behinds. The second quarter saw us kick 3 goals but so did they and with the difference at half time similar to quarter time, at least it hadn’t blown out.
In the 3rd quarter they kicked 4.2 to 3.1 , and with the 19’s boys proving their value, the game was certainly extremely competitive and much more even.
The last quarter saw us turn 38 point s down but fired up to put in a strong effort. Again the youngest of the group were performing well with Dillon being swung into the Ruck in the second half and doing well. The game seemed to go goal for goal after the first quarter and it was a shame we were so slow out of the blocks. Knowing what we know now will make a return game against Parkside a much anticipated event, and indeed, against all other sides. We can match it with our opposition as long as we believe we can – a fact we now know is true.
The guys can hold their head proud, and after finally going down in the end by 35 points, this was basically the difference at quarter time. Well done to Kym and boys and already I can’t wait to see how we are traveling against West Heidelberg at Ford Park as they too will be out to notch up a win.
GO THE MIGHTY BURRA!
