A great night was had by all at our Annual Sponsor’s Night featuring “A Night at the Races”. Thanks mainly go to Neil Heaslip for ensuring a successful night and one we no doubt will set in stone for many years to follow. Thanks to everyone for turning up not least of all our wonderful Sponsors, Junior Club Guests, Families and Friends. A BIG thank you also to the WAGS for frocking up and looking gorgeous on the night with Hairy’s beautiful partner Kimberley taking out Fashion on the Fields.

The girls had a good win last week over Thomastown scoring 27 points to 14. With only 2 losses for the season so far everything is panning out well as we head towards the finals with 3 games remaining. Good luck this week ladies against West Heidelberg.
Football
The 19’s travelled down to Diamond Creek where they had a gallant defeat, if there is such a thing. With big Myles returning after missing most of the year, the boys were keen to put up a good show. Keeping up with the Devils in the first half we were only 15 points down at the big break. The third quarter could have seen them kick away when they put on 7 goals but we managed to stay with them kicking 6 of our own. In the last we started 25 points down but then found something as they kicked 2 goals 2 behinds to our 5 goals 6 behinds. We had our chances missing a couple of set shots in front of goals right at the end and ended up going down by a narrow 4 points. Well done fellas – we know we will give a few teams a big scare heading into the finals with plenty of stock still to return to the fold.
The Twos were up against top team Panton Hill who got off to a flyer and then kicked on again in the second leading at half time 7.4.46 to 1.3.9. The second half wasn’t much better as we allowed our opposition free space to set up way too many goals. In the end we went down by 12 goals which is in stark contrast to our other teams who no matter the opposition are always competitive. Come on boys show some respect for one another on the field for the remaining games of the year and restore some self belief.
The Seniors have had a tough draw over the last 3 weeks with games against 3 other finals contenders in a row. With two victories to our name out of the three so far, we needed to continue our good form against the only team we had not defeated over two seasons - Panton Hill. With the game switched from the Red Backs home ground to ours because of the poor ground condition up in “them thar hills”, we steeled ourselves for another tough contest.
The first quarter was pretty even with both sides kicking 1 goal each and the Burra holding a narrow 2 point advantage at the first change. The next quarter was also even with plenty of pressure being applied forcing the Red Backs to turn the ball over but we failed to capitalize fully. At half time the scores were still even with 12 shots apiece and the Hillers now holding a 5 point lead.
Just like last week, we played the premiership quarter to our advantage and held them scoreless as we put through 4 goals 4 behinds and turned into the last with a margin of 23 points. Again though the evenness of the two teams came to the fore with both sides putting on 2 goals but with us still holding a 23 point advantage. Then, just as our small brigade stepped up a gear, we quickly piled on another 3 goals to suddenly find ourselves 41 points up with 10 minutes to go. Unfortunately we failed to capitalize on the lead and allowed our opposition to kick another 4 goals late in the game that reduced our winning margin back to 17 points. A great win just the same fellas and one that you can all be proud of.
This Week
The 19’s have a bye whilst the Rezzies and Seniors are away to Watsonia at AK Line. Good luck to both sides this week.
Until next time…….
