The East Fremantle Women’s Football Club (EFWFC) is partnering with Women & Leadership Australia (WLA) as part of their joint commitment to developing the female leaders of the future.
WLA is a national initiative dedicated to supporting a higher representation of female leadership throughout the Australian workforce and the broader community. Focused on developing leadership capability, enabling career progression and assisting women to more effectively manage the opposing challenges of career and life, WLA has become a highly regarded connection point for Australian women.
EFWFC has a history of success in developing players and coaches for State and AFLW levels. They have recognised that there is more the Club can do to develop women as leaders and to have a wider impact on the community.
In February a group of players and volunteers from EFWFC began a leadership course run by WLA. The course will combine face to face workshops with online webinars and coursework. The aim of the course is to develop the future leaders of the Club- both on and off the field.
The participants will each complete a personal leadership project and apply their learnings to real life projects. These will include Club improvement projects such as the development of football and administration operations manual, as well as community engagement projects, such as a series of football clinics to primary schools.
When speaking about the program, Club President Kate Argent said “EFWFC has long been held in high esteem for our ability to develop players on the field, but footy clubs are much more than their on-field results.”
“We have an opportunity to make a real difference in our community and in particular in the development of young women. I’m excited to see where this leadership program takes our participants, but more importantly, I think there will be a wider impact on our community that will continue to benefit others for years to come. “
“We’re extremely lucky to be able to partner with WLA, their delivery model and course content is engaging and well suited to our needs, and we’re already seeing positive effects through our participants.”
WLA’s “We are full of admiration for East Fremantle Women’s Football Club’s deep commitment to on field success and developing exceptional people. East Freo is a wonderful example of the potential for sporting organisations to transcend sport and build great communities.”
EFWFC are currently seeking businesses to become Supporting Partners of the EFWFC Leadership Program to help us to fund the community projects. Funds raised will go into a pool that participants can access to fulfil their leadership projects. This may include funds required for equipment, uniforms, club improvement and development.
