The League game started in the usual manner with the Sharks giving up the first goal to the opposition before kicking the next for goals to take a 22 point lead into the first change. Despite third-gamer Sharni Kittow’s solid first quarter on Swans Chelsea Randall Tiah Haynes was given the challenge of minding the two-time All Australian where she gave away a significant height advantage. Haynes managed to outmark her opponent on several occasions and hassled her all day both in the air and on the ground.
Tara Avery and Nic Iricks gave the Sharks good run off half back linking up with rookies Caitlyn Edwards, Alyx Robinson and Brianna Green. Unfortunately the efforts only produced 1 goal for the quarter as Randall and Asha Price combined for 3 goals for the Swans.
The third quarter was a tight tussle with the Swans holding the Sharks goalless whilst kicking two themselves into the breeze and taking a three point lead into three quarter time.
The Sharks made their intentions clear early in the final term kicking a quick goal to take the lead. The defence held firm with Kirsty Soley and Philipa Seth working well with Haynes, Avery and Iricks to repel the Swans forward thrusts. The midfield was also starting to get on top clearly winning the centre clearances and giving the forwards first use of the ball. Alex Williams spent the entire game in the ruck and fought hard against quality opponents. Her work around the ground was significant both in attack and defence.
The Sharks kept the Swans to just one behind in the final 20 minutes and piled on 4 goals 9 to walk away 29 point winners.
