East Fremantle Women’s Football Club are charging ahead towards the finals after 2 excellent wins on the weekend and a solid effort from our Youthies. While all 3 teams were a little short with numbers due to illness, injury, holidays and State 16s duties, with several players having to play in both divisions, it didn’t stop the run and stun displayed in across all divisions.
Congratulations to Nic Iriks on playing her 100th game on Sunday.
The severely depleted Youth Girls team put up a good fight and stayed with the Thunderbirds up until the final quarter when the Thunder put on a few goals. With 3 of our stars in Sydney for the State 16s Championships and others on holidays, the girls had to recruit friends from other sports and have to be commended for the effort and teamwork they displayed.
The Reserves recorded a big win against the Thunderbirds in what was another impressive performance on the field. The veterans of the club led the way with Lynette 'Smitty' Smith and Kareen Blachford showing they still have what it takes to take on the youngsters! Kristen ‘Tiger’ Farrell was selling candy, allowing her to kick a few goals, and the solid performances of Jordan Rowe and Kirsty Soley from the league team meant the Sharks were almost unstoppable. Ingrid Cumming had a standout game making strong runs off the half back line and Jacquie Edwards was a solid target in the forward line, kicking goals at will.

The League girls had more of a battle on their hands. Playing 4th placed Peel in what looks like will be the encounter that will be revisited in a few weeks in the elimination final the girls knew how important this game was to get the upper hand. With both
teams securing one win each so far in the Peel Vs EF battle during the home and away season, this was crucial in getting the upper hand and cementing that 3rd place on the ladder. The Shark girls looked strong at times playing hard and working hard to beat their opponents. 16 year old Zoe Hugget stepped up in to the ruck and was able to dominate in a very solid and impressive performance. Young guns Caitlyn Edwards and Brianna Green got plenty of the ball around the ground and while the scores remained tight up until ¾ time the girls were able to step it up a notch early in the final quarter and skip ahead to what was a comfortable win in the end. It was a good co-captains game from Tara Avery along with goals from Jessica Wuetschner (4), Alex Williams (3) Gabby Simmonds (2), Caitlyn Edwards, Taryn Tapper.
