Auburn GIANTS pocket rocket player, Haneen Zreika, has been nominated for the Womens' Rising Star Award.
Sydney AFL announced that Haneen was recognised as the Round 10 nominee.
Her nomination, written by senior coach, Christian Kunde, states:
Haneen Zreika is an outstanding young footballer that has already made a massive mark in her career, despite being only 16 years of age.
Haneen is still relatively new to football, playing in her first regular season this year. However her prodigious talent and tenacity in both attack and defence have seen her selected to represent the NSW/ACT Youth Girls at the National Championships and for a game in the Sydney AFL Womens' side against AFL Canberra.
Haneen's ability to contest for the ball in the air is second to none, and has seen her play half-back, half-forward, ruck and on the ball, to take advantage of her impressive leaping ability.
While her playing ability is of the highest calibre, the greatest contribution Haneen makes to her team is a positive attitude and constant smiles. Her joy in playing the game inspires teammates almost twice her age to work harder for each other and always have fun. Committed to her team, she never misses an opportunity to lay a shepherd or protect the dropzone, preferring group success to an individual highlight.
We look forward to seeing Haneen continue to improve and grow as a footballer.
Haneen is the second Auburn player to be nominated this year, after Narmeen Mohamad. We hope that both of them will poll well at the Phelan Medal night in September!
