Mona Park's Number 1 Oval is should be renamed Fortress Auburn, after the GIANTS were undefeated in all home games on the ground in 2015, defeating Penrith in the final match at the ground for this season.
Penrith came with a lot to play for, needing to win to consolidate fifth spot and be certain of a finals berth and in form Ramettes forward, Jessie Burnham, was no doubt keen to extend her lead over Auburn's Sonia Ismail in the goal kicking ladder.
However the GIANTS scored the first goal within the first 30 seconds of the match starting, and never lost the lead from there.
Assistant Coach, Liali Karra-Hassan, said that a quick start was precisely what Auburn needed.
"We knew that Penrith had heaps to play for and they are a tough team to beat.
"Our only chance to win the game was to get a perfect start, and that was exactly what we got when Shaymah Fatfat tapped the first ball up straight into the hands of Angela Priftis.
"Angela launched the ball inside 50 and Kirrily Boyd was able to tap it in from the goal square".
However, it wasn't a day out for the GIANTS, with the Ramettes pushing hard until the final siren, and poor kicking from the home side keeping Penrith in the match until the closing moments.
"It's something we need to work on over our bye week if we want to stay competitive", Karra-Hassan said.
Auburn GIANTS (4.18 42) defeated Penrith Ramettes (3.4 22).
