Windy and rainy Ashburton was the venue for the round 7 clash with the Eagles. The bad news was we were two players short against a near full strength Eagles. We began strongly even kicking two goals clear in the first quarter. Coach Lachlan posting himself in the goal square and taking some good marks. Zac was also looking good with his long range boot. Todd was winning some pretty tough contests and we were battling hard around the ground. James S was again spoiling well at fullback and not making it easy for the Eagles forward line.
Coming into the 3rd quarter the Bulldogs were well and trully in it and just a few goals out of the contest. Our key word for the day had been courage and we showed plenty. In the end we just ran out of legs and couldn't match there running. Dan Hastings had his best game of the season with some inspired touches. New boy Liam had a great first up game and is another awesome pup to join the side. Todd got plenty of touches in the middle, including some great grabs. Rocky's Dad playing his first game in 20 odd years did well to help us out in defense. Becky and our defense tried hard to stop the Eagles attack and Garrett did some good things.
With some players back and better team work who knows what the Dogs could unleash in the finals. We are not done yet and tough contests like this one won't do our fitness and character any harm. Come on Doggies!
