The Christchurch Bulldogs will be looking to capitalise on their lengthy presesason training this year on their quest to go back to back in the Canterbury AFL. Old (but still surprisingly good looking) heads have been introducing a new breed of bulldogs to some cold and wet training sessions at the Hagley netball courts on Monday nights in an effort to build the fitness required to stay top of the heap for this year's competition.
With a first round Grand Final rematch scheduled against the Eastern Blues on the 30th of August, preparatiions have been underway since June to make sure that a win and momentum is carried through from the start of the season.
In an effort to bolster stocks depleted from the inevitable departures of the year gone by, the Christchurch Bulldogs will be holding their open day at Northwood Park on the 17th of August. Footy training will be undertaken followed by registration and a bbq (and a couple of alcoholic beverages for those of age), starting from 1:30pm, rain, hail or shine.
The training session will be conducted by the evergreen Harry Peterson, our returning premiership coach (who is rumoured to have passed up a lucrative retirement package in Melbourne to defend his title here in Christchurch).
A number of new and promising young recruits have presented at our preseason trainings and the more people we can have on the books the larger the pool of players becomes. This means trainings will run more efficiently and team structure can be developed and delivered on the park when it matters.

The unofficial team mantra this season (as chosen by me) is 'words can encourage, actions inspire'.
