The Christchurch Bulldogs began their campaign with a resounding victory over the reigning premiers on a glorious Sunday afternoon at Northwood Park.
Both sides were sporting new look teams with plenty of first gamers taking the field in the Canterbury AFL. The Bulldogs strong recruiting continued, with experience from other competitions giving them a hardened edge against a less experienced Eagles outfit.
The new Bulldogs uniform was given a warm reception as well as a big victory to kick off what should be a strong campaign for season 2016.
Coach Izaak Williams made full use of the bench throughout the game and saw just reward with a strong final term to really hammer home an early season advantage.
Off the field the Bulldogs have secured sponsorship from a number of willing backers, headed by returning sponsors The Redwood Hotel and Joe’s Garage Wigram (under Hustle Hospitality).
Benny’s Barber Shop has jumped onboard for the season, meaning at least one player each week should be looking respectable based on their performance from the previous game.
The social events are being planned presently, with a WAG’s night to be the headline event on the social calendar. Numerous other functions will take place throughout the season, primarily once the games return to their usual Saturday timeslot.
Supporters are encouraged to make their way down during fine weather to Northwood Oval to get behind their champions on Sunday afternoon, homemade sausage rolls preferred but optional.
Training continues on Wednesday nights at Burnside Park at 6.30p.m until daylight savings.
