Canterbury AFL benchmark the Christchurch Bulldogs have qualified for their eighth consecutive Grand Final appearance by virtue of an undefeated season, finishing top of the ladder for 2016.
The only blemish for the season was a hard fought draw against recent rivals the Ashburton Eagles in round 4.
Lead ably by Co-Captains Dale Stevenson, Wayne Sullivan and Vice Captain Garrett Beck, the Bulldogs have kept their momentum going all season and have their eyes firmly on the major silverware for the first time since 2013.
Their opponents will be determined by the result of the semi final between the second placed Eagles and third placed University Cougars. The Cougars are in contention for their first Grand Final since 2009, in which they were defeated by first time premiers the Christchurch Bulldogs.
The last time they met, the Cougars got over the top of the Eagles in a tight finish, but the business end of the season means that all players must be eligible and fighting for their nominated team. This could be an interesting scenario as many games this season have been propped up by fill in players.
Whichever team earns the right to play off for the premiership will be forced to face a determined bulldogs outfit, not distracted by the week off but conducting a training session on Saturday to remain sharp and ready.
