Stawell Warriors under 14s confirmed their 2008 domination in the Wimmera Football League with a strong 32 points grand final win over the Horsham Demons.
The young Warriors dominated from the outset, despite kicking 11 straight points in the third term.
Opening with the advantage of a strong wind Warriors made the most of their chances and it was soon evident the young Warriors were up and about with goals to Tom O'Neill and Ashley Cowen in the opening three minutes of the game.
Cowen followed up soon after with his second goal for the quarter and then following a clever tap from Josh Howard, Luke Jordan goaled. It wasn't until 10 minutes into the term that the Demons were able to put a behind on the board.
With Kyle Hendy dominating the ruck and David Morris controlling across half back and continually setting up Warriors attacks, Tom Eckel finished off some good work down the ground with a goal just before the quarter time siren to see Warriors taking a 30 point advantage into the first change.
It was the run of the Warriors on the big open spaces of the Alexandra Oval that set up this early lead. The work of Morris and Hendy and the run of Cowen, Eckel and Zac Marrow had Warriors in control.
The Demons came out with the wind in the second term and four minutes in finally cracked it for their first goal of the match.
However, this wasn't the revival the Demons were hoping for, it was their only goal for the quarter and at the main break they still trailed Warriors by 21 points.
Warriors failed to score in this second term, but the strong work of David Morris and Jackson Dark and the smaller players Damon Folkes and Fraser Steggall in defence kept Warriors in control.
Kicking with the wind in the third term Warriors were expected to put the finishing touches on the premiership, but it wasn't to be, Warriors just couldn't kick a goal.
Warriors domination around the ground continued, but they strung together 11 behinds for the term, which was enough to stretch their lead to 32 points at the final change.
David Morris, Jackson Dark, Zac Marrow and Mitchell Olafsen set up numerous attacking moves.
It was a big ask for the Demons, but kicking with the wind in the final term they would have given themselves a chance of overhauling Warriors.
However, Warriors stood firm in defence led by David Morris. Demons goals to Tom Stevenson and Joe Curren had cut Warriors scoreboard lead, but vital goals to Nick Considine and Cowen sealed the Warriors premiership win.
It was a huge team effort from Warriors and typical of their performances during the season.
David Morris was the dominator and was unlucky not to win the best on ground medal, while ruckman Kyle Hendy and Jackson Dark particularly in defence were strong, Ashley Cowen was clever and creative and finished with three goals, youngsters Zac Marrow and Tom O'Neill continually had Warriors into attack, while Mitchell Olafsen came into his own in the second half.
With just one loss for the 2008 season, there was never a chance Warriors were going to let the premiership slip from their grasp.
