PLAYERS

Be early for training and games, if you can't train or play please advise your Coach or Team Manager.
• work equally hard for myself and for my team. I will make every effort to shake my opponents hand after the game. I will be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

• be a good sport and play by the rules. (The Club will not tolerate unsportsmanlike behaviour).

I will never argue with an official. If I disagree with a decision I will inform the captain, coach or manager during a break or after the game in an appropriate manner. I will not raise issues of disagreement publicly.

• control my temper and not use derogatory language.

• treat all players in my sport as I like to be treated. I will not bully or take unfair advantage of another competitor.

• cooperate with my coach, team members and opponents.

• respect the rights, dignity and worth of all people involved in the game, regardless of their gender, ability or cultural background. (Vilification will not be tolerated under any circumstances).

PARENTS AND SUPPORTERS

• Do not shout advice to players during the game. (The coach provides instructions to the players and your comments may be in contradiction to these guidelines).

• Do not use bad language, nor will I harass players, coaches’, officials or other spectators. (Parents that loudly harass the referee are embarrassing to the player and the team).

• encourage my child to play within the rules and respect officials' and coaches' decisions - no matter what.

• teach my child to respect the efforts of their opponents.

• recognise and acknowledge all good play for both teams, not just my own child. Winning isn't everything!

• Do not criticise the coach in front of your child. I will support the coach and stand behind his/her decisions.

• Do not criticise or ridicule my or any other child's performance during or after the game.

• volunteer your services and help when asked by a coach or official.

• Do not arrive at the venue under the influence of drugs or alcohol nor will I consume drugs or alcohol at games.

•  respect the rights, dignity and worth of all people involved in the game, regardless of their gender, ability or cultural background. (Vilification will not be tolerated under any circumstances).

Parents are a fundamental part of the team and our club, participate and assist by helping on the score bench willingly, communicate when your child is unable to play or train and respecting the Team Manager and the score bench roster.

DISCIPLINE - PLAYERS

• Coaches will liaise with parents in relation to discipline issues that occur during training and game days by players. This may include disruptive, disrespectful and inappropriate behaviour as deemed by the Coach, Executive and Committee.

• Coaches will enforce the '3 strikes you’re out' policy if bad behaviour continues - this applies to parents and players as well.

• Strike 1 - appropriate action to be taken by coach at training, which may include sitting out during training and less court time on game day.

• Strike 2 - Coach or Team Manager to contact parent and request that parent attends training for however long the club deems necessary.

• Strike 3 - player suspended pending written confirmation of why player should remain and actions taken to ensure problem doesn't re-occur. This is not a guarantee for re-instatement.

• Escalation of these issues will be via the Coach, Section and Competition Managers, Manager Discipline and then the Executive level.
• If an individual is not happy with the outcome of the above they may seek intervention from Maccabi Victoria.
• If an individual is still unhappy with the outcome they may request an independent arbitrator/mediator at their own cost.

DISCIPLINE – PARENTS, SPECTATORS and CLUB OFFICIALS

All disciplinary matters relating to Parents, Spectators and Club Officials will be dealt with by the Executive.

THE TEAM BENCH

• The bench is there for players and the coach ONLY. The team bench, under the rules, is part of the game.

• The coach is responsible for everyone who sits on the bench.

• Comments or actions by anyone who sits on the bench, if in the judgment of the referees are derogatory to players, the other coach or the referees, could be penalised by a "bench technical foul".

• Parents and spectators are requested not to sit on or directly behind the bench. Parents should be seated opposite the bench or far enough away from the players to not be considered part of the bench.

Cyber Bullying & Social Media Policy Statement

Every person in sport, in every role, has the right to participate in an environment that is fun, safe and healthy, and to be treated with respect, dignity and fairness.

Bullying is any behaviour that is offensive, abusive, belittling, intimidating or threatening - whether this is face to face, indirectly, or via communication technologies such as mobile phone and computers.

Cyber bullying is a form of bullying, which is carried out through an internet service such as a email, a chat room, discussion group, instant messaging or web pages. It can also include bullying through mobile phone technologies such as SMS.

Examples of cyber bullying behaviour are:

Teasing and being made fun of

Spreading rumours online

Sending unwanted messages

Defamation

Alcheringa Basketball Club is concerned at the increasing number of complaints being made about the inappropriated use of text messaging, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social networking sites by people involved in basketball.

These sites have been used to bully other basketballers, to criticise referees and to criticise Clubs and Associations Management.

This behaviour is totally unacceptable in our sport and will not be tolerated.

Codes of Conduct and Member Protection Policy addresses bullying behaviour as well as a range inappropriate behaviours including discrimination, harassment and abuse and provide a complaints process dealing with incidents.

The Member Protection By-Laws refer specifically to inappropriate use of technology for that purpose. Under Basketball Vic Tribunal By-Laws and Member Protection By-Laws, behaviour which is unacceptable can be brought to the Tribunal, even if it didn't occur on the basketball court.

As long as the incident is basketball related, the tribunal is able to deal with it.

The Alcheringa Basketball Club will have no hesitation in reporting to the Tribunal and penalising, inappropraite, basketball related behaviour which misuses mobile phones, internet networking sites or other technology.

The Alcheringa Basketball Club will not allow or tolerate cyber bullying or bullying in general.

Remember  it is a criminal offence to use social media or mobile phones  to menace or harass another person.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
