The Warriors have come from behind to score a thrilling five-point victory over Bendigo on Sunday.
Trailing by 7 points midway through the last quarter, the Warriors kicked the last 2 goals of the match to edge out Bendigo in a dramatic conclusion to the contest.
Bendigo jumped out of the box against the Warriors who appeared to be suffering the side effect of the long bus trip the night before as they conceded the game's first two goals.
Grant Henning was the only shinning light for the away team in the first term with the powerful utility dominating both in the centre and up forward. Col Knight was also working hard up forward and showed the way by putting his head over and into the ball at every opportunity.
Bendigo inaccuracy in front of goal was the only thing keeping the Warriors in the came during the second quarter.
In a classic foot race, the strong marking Wayne McQuillen edged out his opponent and shot a slick hand ball to Martin Garoni who found Mike Whitaker who was on hand to drill his first for the day.
The Warriors gradually gained some control of the contest midway through the third term and were playing along the wings nicely. David Ross and Greg Warren were providing the spring board out of defence into attack and goals from Col Knight and Peter Perillo had the Warriors in touch.
However, Bendigo were not done and once again extended their margin. Terry Flynn and Marc Stothers were battling hard in defence and kept the Warriors in the match going into the final term.
Tackling with ferocity, the Wellington mid field of Brett Morris, Stephen McQuillen and ball magnet Grant Henning locked the ball into their forward line for much of the last term.
With their hopes of getting a win looking a little grim, Wellington quickly turned around a seven point deficit into a five point lead after Mike Whitaker kicked his second.
Bendigo were desperate not to lose the match but the definite defender Joe Pataki stood strong and the Warriors managed to hang on to win the match.
