Melton handed Wellington it's first defeat this season with the home team going down by just six points.
Coming off four straight wins, the Warriors were extremely optimistic about their fifth but Melton dominated the game from the opening bounce.
Melton were well on top in the first quarter as they clogged up the Warriors defence and proceeded to launch several lightening counter attacks to a powerful forward line.
But the Warriors managed to restrict Melton to just a seven-point lead at the first change due to some great individual efforts from James March and Greg Sage.
The second quarter saw Wellington lose first gamer James Grey to the dreaded hamstring curse and with this the Warriors lost their drive off the half back. Gav Peatling was a big contributor in the middle while Gary Fenton and Des McKay were providing some much needed fire power up forward.
In the third term the Warriors ineffectually bombed the ball long to a host of Melton players and they rebounded well out of defence. Brett Morris, Kain Jackson and Russell Hansford were the standouts for the home team during the term but Melton tighten their grip on the game with a 20 point lead going into the final term.
Junk time goals to Gary Fenton, Wayne McQuillen and Brett Morris brought the final score to a more respectable result with Melton 13.4.82 defeating the Warriors 9.8.62.
This Sunday the Warriors take on Geelong at the Nambrok football oval and host their annual Ladies Day function. The event will be used to raise some much needed funds for local ladies with cancer. So we urge all player's partners, past and present, to come along and enjoy a great afternoon of fun all in the name of a worthy cause. The Ladies Day Luncheon starts at 12.30pm and is a free event for all player's partners.
