The club was scheduled to play 9 games in 2013 with away games played at Bendigo, Castlemaine , Werribee and Traralgon. On the field the results were very encouraging with the Warriors competing strongly in all matches and winning more than our fair share. The club welcomed many new players into our family friendly environment which added both depth and character to the club. On almost every occasion, the opposing team made comment that they loved playing the Warriors, as the games were always competitive but played in great spirit. This is a tremendous compliment for the club, and every member should take pride that their club is viewed in such light.
I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Kain Jackson for his hard work and dedication as coach of the Warriors for the past 4 years. It takes a lot of energy and commitment to start a club from nothing, and Kain with the support of his family has been instrumental for not only making us successful on the field, but also in setting the culture of the club and aligning it’s moral compass. Good Luck Kain in your future endeavours and we look forward to your participation in whatever capacity in 2014 and beyond.
The 2013 season also saw the club embark on a community involvement program. The Warriors are so much more than a regular football club, and this is highlighted by our club values;
- To provide a family friendly environment.
- To improve men’s health through activity and socialisation.
- Always play within the spirit of the game
- To be a welcoming and non-discriminatory sporting club
- To be community minded organisation that supports others in need.
The club participated in “RELAY FOR LIFE” in March which was well supported and a great cause to be associated with. The funds raised went to cancer research through the Anti-Cancer Council. The club also made a community contribution by raising funds for Bella Hocken. And finally we organised a major club raffle that was conducted to provide funds for those in our community battling cancer. The raffle raised $3050 which was a fantastic effort, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the businesses that provided goods for such a worthy cause. Also a big thankyou to ALL club members who contributed by selling tickets for this initiative. As President, I have been immensely proud of what we have achieved for others less fortunate this year, and I strongly believe that this is only the beginning for our club and it’s community involvement.
The committee have worked extremely hard in 2013, and I thank them for their support. The club has various challenges moving forward, but with a hard working committee the Warriors will continue to go from strength to strength. To all the partners and children that are such an important part of our club, we value your support and contributions through the 2013 season.
Finally I would like to thank the club sponsors for their tremendous support. We aim to deliver value for your support and we believe we are doing so through our community involvement. The Warriors look forward to working closely with all their sponsors in 2014.
Have a great summer break and I look forward to seeing you all at the Warriors in 2014.
Regards
David Ross
