The Warriors win another close one as they defeat Murray Masters in wet conditions.
With heavy rain predicted for the majority of the match some players decided swimming attire would be more appropriate than the normal football gear.
The Murray Masters produced their best footy in the first term as they booted the first two goals of the match and it was looking like a long day for the back line as the struggled to defend against larger opponents and a flood of free running mid fielders. Col Knight could see the righting on the wall and quickly dropped back as a lose player to lessen the damage. The Murray Masters had a 15-point lead at the first break.
The second quarter saw a more prepared Warriors team led by onballers Peter Perillo and Matt Cook. Geoff Kinnish was also providing the Warriors with first use with some good old fashion body on body ruck work.
With a slippery ball and wide wings the conditions were perfect for the types of Ray Larsen and Andrew Hargreves who provided the Warriors with run off half back as they slowly started chipping away at the Murray Masters advantage.
The Warriors were trailing by 10 points at half-time but showed they were right in it when goal sneak Wayne McQullian kicked truly from the pocket only minutes into the third quarter. Then moments later McQullian delivered to Brett Mathews who took a strong leading mark right in front and into his nose. When Heath Brew also marked and kicked a major the Warriors found themselves in front at the end of the quarter.
In classic coach Ash Oldham style the Warriors team was change up dramatically for the final term, with backline utility Paul March moved into the ruck. This move proved to be the difference with the Warriors holding on for a three point victory.
Best: Peter Perillo, Ray Larsen, Andrew Hargreves, Col Knight and Geoff Kinnish
