Sydney AFL Breaking News - Tuesday, 14 September 2009 Ty Armitage wins Snow Medal Young Manly Wolves mid fielder Ty Armitage was the runaway winner of the 2009 Snow Medal last night at the glittering end of season Sydney AFL presentation night in Pyrmont.
He polled an outstanding 27 votes to win by 7 votes from the nearest player in the Division One competition. What makes this feat even more remarkable is that Ty was selected to play two games for the Sydney Swans reserves in August and therefore as he did not play for the Wolves he was unable to poll any votes.
For the convert from that round ball game, this award marks an amazingly consistent run over recent seasons with the Wolves as he is the previous winner of the 2007Hart Medal for the best player in the U18 Challenge Cup and was also the joint runner up in the Snow Medal last year.
“I am really happy to have won the medal after getting so close last year but I guess I would trade this for a shot at the premiership on the weekend, but unfortunately this is not to be”, said Armitage, clearly still lamenting the Wolves loss in the Semi Finals. “However I would like to thank the AFL, Manly Footy Club and my teammates for making this award possible.” Armitage continued.
Given his success with the 2009 Snow Medal the Manly Wolves Footy Club have given Ty two tickets to the AFL Grand Final and an excited Armitage has asked his Dad to accompany him to Melbourne for the last day in September.
Also polling well for the Wolves on the night was Blake Brendan finishing fourth with 16 Votes and David Stroud ninth with 12 votes, both had stellar seasons. For all vote counts visit the Sydney AFL website and go to competition section and follow the links to the Best & Fairest votes.
