Half a Round of Footy
The Wolves were again all over Sydney but unfortunately only played 2 of the 4 games on the fixture with only our Div One and Div Four teams playing. The U18’s and Div 2 games will be played on the 25th July bye weekend, details to be advised later.
Our Div 4 team played top side at St Paul’s Oval, Sydney Uni and were soundly beaten by 72 pts in very wet conditions with the game looking more like a rugby/soccer combination. Hard to pick any good players with the only highlight being a goal kicked by the “playing” coach, Rob Manning, I am sure he would have preferred a victory instead. The loss pushes the Div 4 team out of the top four so we will have to regain the early season form to make sure we play finals footy.
In bizarre circumstances the Div 2 game was called off by the Syd Uni grounds staff only 2 minutes before game time. Both sides and the umpires were on the ground ready to start but the call was to halt play. Despite protests from all parties the game did not proceed.
Again our Div One team had to change game details for the weekend, played on Sunday and at Henson Park against Western Suburbs. In a very scrappy game the Wolves ran out 32 pt winners with Nathan Darvill kicking 4 goals and best players being Craig Pridgeon, Tom Atkinson and Jason Murray. We maintain second position and look forward to the remainder of the season to ensure we get the double chance in the Finals.
We are back home again at Pittwater this week for all games so we are looking for 4 big wins. May Footy and the Wolves be the winners.
See you back at the Harbord Diggers for a drink after the game and don’t forget to confirm your registration as all Wolves memberships entitle you to Diggers membership. All details on the Club website
