Wolves Strong On The Road

Sydney AFL Record – Monday 10 August 2009

After coming out strong from the first whistle and kicking the first goal, the Wolves First Grade set the pace for the remainder of the day. With home ground advantage, good ball use, strong running and playing to the game plan the Wolves outplayed Wollongong in front of a packed crowd. Best players on the day were Robbo, Cresswell and Wolfey. With the finals looming it was great to see some good work put together on the paddock, for what will be a tough journey ahead.  With all four teams at home next week the Wolves are looking to continue the good form.

The Reserves suffered a heart breaking loss after the siren out at Monarch Oval. With an undermanned side, and unable to field a bench, the depleted side did well to stay in the match. Mark Gumbleton was, as always, strong in defence.

The 4th Div boys headed out to Penrith to continue their push towards September. A strong manly side came out firing and despite more inaccuracy in front of goals came out 15 points ahead at half time. Klaus was strong in the middle of the ground, and again Addicott was deadly up front (finishing with 7 majors). Special mention goes to Ryan from the Manly under 18’s who debuted in fantastic fashion.

A late surge by the Penrith side combined with even more Manly clangers at goal saw the margin drop to 5 points at the end of the third term, Penrith 8.5-53 Manly 8.10-58. With their season potentially on the line the senior Manly players lifted, and ensured another win for the wolves.
F.Pettersson and Mountford were strong in the backline, with Fagan and O.Williams again finding each other all around the ground, supported well by Purtle and Conroy through the midfield. The 4th div meet competition leaders Sydney University at Pittwater Oval next week at 10:30am. This will be a game not to miss.

As the year draws to a close, the Wolves are looking towards the future and new club house, and will be holding a Club Weldon fundraiser, on Sunday 23 August, from noon at the Harbord Diggers. Lunch and drinks at $30 pp (including door prize) and special discount for Couples - $50. As always, the event will be a great catch up of Wolves old and new – be sure to purchase your ticket and show your support of the club. All details on the Club website www.manlyafl.com.
