Wolves last home game for Season
Our last day at Pittwater Oval for Season 2009 had mixed results for the Wolves with all four grades playing and the U18’s playing their last game for the season, as they have a bye next weekend.
Firstly we must congratulate Dean Purtle, Rod Wills and all the players who have pulled on a jumper for the Wolves U18’s this year for their efforts over the season, it has been tough and not satisfying in terms of results but has continued to build a base from which we can develop a strong team in the not too distant future. Against Sydney Uni our boys were competitive but were out gunned by a bigger and faster team on the day. Best players were Richard Newell, Ryan Wearne and Cam Gello.
Our Div 4 team were attempting to win to secure a spot in the finals, but were up against top placed Syd Uni on a mission. Despite a big effort they were no match for the students who ran out winners by 89 pts. Best players were Ryan Wearne, Angus Wills and Darren Fagan. The boys still have an outside chance of getting into the four if we win against Camden and UTS lose to Syd Uni this week, let’s hope Rob and the boys are up for the challenge.
The Div 2 boys were up against tough opposition in Syd Uni but after a slow start played very competitive footy in the second half and only went down by 27 pts. With some straighter kicking the result may have been closer, best players Luke Slobin (kicked 3 goals), Ben Hawkins and Vinnie Naughton.
We finally got a win for the day with our Div 1 team firing well to record a convincing 107 pt victory against our neighbours North Shore. With Coach Cresswell again kicking 8 goals ably supported by Ben Joseph, unstoppable down back and Robbo leading the midfield the team is looking good for the finals. With Ty and Stroudy to return from their Swans Reserves duties and a couple of players from injury places in the team are competitive.
