Match Reports.
The Penrith Rams U/18’s made it six straight wins on Saturday as they maintained their position on top of the Sydney AFL ladder with a hard fought 63 point win over Macquarie Uni in difficult conditions at University Oval.

The match was won in the first quarter, with Penrith putting on five unanswered goals to lead by 32 points at the first change. To the Warriors credit they fought back over the final three terms as the worsening conditions made playing attractive football difficult. They were also helped by an inaccurate Penrith side who kicked 3.14 after half time.

Harley Stibbard, Matthew Payne, Mitch Reinhard, Daniel Schroot and Ben Robinson all continued their consistently good seasons to be Penrith’s best, whilst James Colquhoun chimed in to play his best game of the year. John Spicer proved a handful at full-forward with four goals.

Final scores were Penrith 11.19.85 to Macquarie Uni 3.4.22

Reserve Grade posted one of their best wins in recent seasons in overcoming the more fancied Warriors by 12 points. In what was an even tussle all day, the Rams managed to hold on to their narrow lead in the last quarter to post a great win.

Final scores were Penrith 10.9.69 to Macquarie Uni 8.9.57

Brendon Cooke, Daniel Corboy and Dale Perry were the standouts, with Jason Bradley booting three goals.

First Grade were coming off an encouraging effort against UTS the previous week, however, they were never a chance in the extremely heavy conditions against the fresher legs of the home side.

John Keane and Adam West did well for the Rams, whilst Justin Brock, Brendan Cooke and Dave Cummings battled on strongly.

This week sees the top of the table clash in the U/18’s as the Rams take on second placed Southern Power at Greygums Oval in what should be an excellent indicator of how the side is traveling. The seniors also take on the Power whilst the Reserves face UNSW/ES.

The early morning start for the 18's saw the team arrive to a sodden and slippery University Oval in an attempt to keep their "away" match unbeaten record.
a
The competition leaders were facing the McWarriors for the second time this season and were expected to continue their winning streak alive against the team they had comprehensively beaten in the season opener.
a
With the usual unavailability of a few players due to injury and other commitments, the Rams were still able to field a 21 man squad and it didn't take long for the visitors to grab an early lead with a goal to Ben Robinson after a structured assault from the centres. Kyle McDonagh and Hamish Mulligan followed quickly with majors and Shaun Stevens converted from in front after a strong mark. With Robinson adding another it was the Rams going to the break with a 5.2 lead after keeping the students scoreless.
a
The second quarter saw the home team starting to create opportunities ander worsening weather conditions. Their first foray into the Rams forward line saw a "soccered" goal give them confidence and was followed up shortly after by another. Penrith, however, were able to respond with majors to Reece Johnson and Daniel Schroot whilst John Spicer kicked his first for the match. The tight quarter still allowed Penrith to sneak further ahead with a thirty nine point buffer as the team went to oranges.
.
With the rain becoming heavier, the ball became a piece of lead and the surface deteriorated badly with both teams unable to keep their footing.  Another Spicer goal was negated by a Uni six-pointer although the Rams held a lions share of possession. Scambling defence by the home side saw Penrith add seven single pointers as the ground turned into a quagmire, with only the coaching staff able to stay dry in the dugout.
.
The final quarter also saw Penrith dominate, although unable to put a larger gap on Uni. John Spicer kicked a double to take his days earnings to four, including a stunning "off the floor" effort that sidestepped about four pairs of the McWarriors legs before being given the "all clear" two flag salute. Another seven behinds were added before the final siren (Which sounded more like a certain assistant coach hours before a trivia night) with Penrith running out winners by 63 points.
.
Coach Kevin Tate was happy with yet another "away" win. "It's been a tough campaign on the road with five of the last six being played away from home all over Sydney. Today was always going to be tough in the conditions as rain and mud is always a big evener in football" he commented. "We gave the boys a light training preparation for this match during the week but it will be back to a couple of hard sessions during the week as we prepare to take on second placed Southern Power at home next Saturday. That game will probably answer many questions about our premiership hopes for 2009"
.
For Penrith, Harley Stibbard continued with another fine effort again along with "hard men" Mitch Reinhart and Matty Payne who cuased headaches for their opponents. Daniel Schroot and Ben Robinson were exceptional once again whilst James Coquhoun played his best game of the season and is this week's deserved recipient of the prestigious "Green Car" award. The "Red Cow Inn" Dinner award was won by Ben Robinson whilst the new "Freestyle Barber Shop" Award was given to James Colquhoun.
.
The young Rams now head into next week's match of the round against Southern Power in a game of mammoth proportions. It was one win apiece in 2008 with Penrith beating last years Grand Finalists in the second last game of 2008. Their first clash for this season promises to be a sensational game between the competition's best attacking teams. The game starts at 10:00 AM at Greygums. Get to the ground and support them.
