The Penrith Rams put together two encouraging performances against UTS last Saturday at Greygums Oval, coming away with a win and a narrow loss.
The seniors came within 16 points of upsetting the third placed Bats in what was a tight struggle all day. After trailing by just two points at the long break, the Rams gave it their all in the second half but just fell short.
The absence of key position player David Cummings due to injury, along with classy on-ballers Kris Wozniak and Aidan Thompson, proved to be the difference in the side getting the victory.
Final scores were UTS 9-11-65 to Penrith 7-7-49.
David Bradley was Penrith’s best in the midfield, with Sam Lockhart, John Keane and Michael Morgan others to do well. Jason Bradley continues to be a target up forward, booting three goals.
With the U/18’s having the week off, a number of the boys took the opportunity to have a much needed run in the reserves. Their addition proved to be a great fillip for the side as they posted an upset 15 point victory over the Bats to throw that competition’s finals race wide open. Except for some inaccurate finishing in front of goal the margin could have been far bigger.
Final scores were Penrith 10-13-73 to UTS 9-4-58.
Kyle McDonagh was best on ground for Penrith, with Craig Saad making a welcome return to the club to put in a strong effort. The older hands in Dale Perry, Christian Knight and Jon Barry also did well, with the youngsters in John Spicer and Nick Edwards putting on the finishing touches with two goals apiece.
This weekend sees the Rams hosting Pennant Hills in the seniors, whilst Manly are the visitors in the reserves and U/18’s.
