The Sydney Swans have announced they have secured three players in this years draft from their QBE Swans Academy, including UNSW-ES Bulldogs player Abe Davis. Abe will be joined by Isaac Heeney and Jack Hiscox, with the former winning the Hunter Harrison medal as best divsion 2 player of the National Under 18 championships and also being touted by many as a top five pick if he were to be an open selection in the draft.
Abe was an integral part of the Bulldogs 2013 Under 18's grand final team kicking 55 goals in 15 games, including 6 goals in the preliminary final victory over Illawarra. Despite missing six home and away games he picked up 18 votes in the League Best and Fairest which was enough for fourth spot, 5 votes behind the winner.
In 2014 he marked his senior club debut with a best on ground performance against Sydney University, which also earned him a Sydney AFL Rising Star Nomination. Abe was only able to play three more games with the club in 2014 (2 in Premier Divsion, 1 with Under 19's) after being rewarded with ten games in the Sydney Swans NEAFL team alongside the likes of Ryan O'Keefe and Tom Mitchell.
Abe played in the 2014 Under 18 National Championships where across three games he picked up 40 disposals, 15 marks and 4 goals. He was also a participant at the 2014 National Draft combine.
During the academy bidding process, Abe attracted a bid from the Geelong Cats guaranteeing him an AFL spot for 2015. The Swans matched the Cats bid which ultimately found Abe a home for 2015. Hopefully the start of long journey! Well done Abe.
