Premier Division

UTS Bats 4.3 9.5 12.9 16.13 (109)
Goals: R Farrelly 2, A Foote, J Parmenter, J McAnespie, A McIntyre
Best: R Farrelly, K Latham, A McIntyre, H Annear, T Widmer, A Foote
The Sydney AFL Premier Division kicked off under lights at Henson Park last Friday night. In slippery conditions both teams struggled for fluency but as the game wore on it was the Bats boys who were more polished with ball in hand. Turnovers around the ground is what killed the Bulldogs and despite the inclement weather coach Josh Parmenter will be looking for an improvement in this area against North Shore.
Division One
UNSW-ES Bulldogs 3.1 5.2 6.5 8.7 (55)
UTS Bats 1.2 8.4 12.5 16.8 (104)
Goals: B Dunn 4, T Naghten 2, A McKenzie, S McCormick
Best: B Dunn, S Dornauf, J Lampi, A Werfel, Z Bullivant, N McGann
Coming up against last years grand finalists was always going to be a tough assignment first up but the Bulldogs came out firing and took an early lead against the Bats. But the class and size of UTS came to the fore in the second quarter with a 7 consecutive goal blitz that blew the game open and effectively ended the contest although the dogs kept fighting to the very end. Scott Dornauf was particularly impressive taking a number of contested marks against bigger opposition.
Division Three
UNSW-ES Bulldogs 1.3 2.4 3.5 7.8 (50)
UTS Bats 3.3 5.8 9.10 10.12 (72)
Goals: N Radford 2, D Rider 2, T Dunkley 1, C Patten, D Backler
Best: N Radford, J Briggs, D Mahenthirarojah, J Martin, T Dunkley, A Gillman
This was always going to be a litmus test for the Bulldogs as to how their season was shaping up. Both teams have had some mighty contests in Div Two and Div Four over the previous few seasons, and both the clubs teams from those divisions have been merged into Div Three. The Bulldogs endeavour could not be disputed with some ferocious tackles being made with captain Steve McIlwrath leading the way on this front. On the down side that ferociousness was let down with some easy tackles missed, communication was lacking and the skills by foot around the ground were poor. With some work in these areas this is a team that can easily make finals in 2015.
Divison Five
UNSW-ES Bulldogs 3.1 6.2 8.5 13.8 (86)
UTS Bats 1.5 4.7 5.11 6.15 (51)
Goals: M Wright 3, J Hook 3, S Wright 3, R Cain 2, T O'Donnell, M Gillett
Best: M Martin, T O'Donnell, S Wright, M Wright, R Williams, J Hook
Division Five have been pain stakingly close to making finals over the last few years and with the club cutting down to four teams and an abundance of numbers this could be the year to make that next step. The guys fought out a grinding victory in what was an impressive performance and one which will leave the boys in good stead at the start of 2015. Tim O'Donnell and Josh Tighe were impossible to stop through the middle, whilst new comer Rhys Williams took some nice grabs and will fit in nicely to an already potent forward line.
Under 19s
UNSW-ES Bulldogs 2.2 7.3 8.6 10.9 (69)
Sydney University 4.0 7.3 8.7 10.9 (69)
Goals: H Oziel 3, T Chichester 3, L Hoy, J Deep, K Lower, J Lees
Best: M Lemme, H Oziel, J Lees, T Chichester, L Irvine, S Lewinson
An amazing game of football under lights at Henson Park on Saturday night. Only a handful of games a season in the entire competition are drawn, and a tiny percentage of those are also level at half time. A fitting result in a contest where the two teams traded blows all night with neither able to break free. Michael Lemme was best afield while three goals to Tom Chichester and Haim Oziel were vital in keeping the dogs alive in the contest.
