Last Friday, May 22nd the Belconnen Magpies held their Annual Long Lunch at the National Press Club with guest speaker Kevin Sheedy, and the room packed to bursting with 290 guests.
The Press Club put on a fantastic lunch for everyone - and the drinks certainly went down a treat - but the highlight of the day was undoubtedly Kevin Sheedy. He had the group enthralled for an hour or so as he recounted stories from his playing and coaching days. Towards the end Sheeds even took questions from the floor, although surprisingly he seemed to skate right by any questions which had Richmond/Wallace or Coach in the them!! Kevin was also kind enough to donate a number of items for our fundraising auction, the highlight being a hand signed dinner plate listing his best ever ‘team’ of assistant coaches listed in positions on the ground.
The main auction, hosted for the 8th time by master auctioneer Peter Walker, saw a stack of fantastic items go under the hammer. The biggest cheer of the afternoon was for the group who bought the Hawthorn signed and framed guernsey for a super price. The jumper is going to make one very happy employee when he gets his bonus!
The club really appreciated Peter Walker running the auction, Kevin Sheedy for being such a fantastic guest speaker and Tim Gavel for MC’ing the event with style. And of course Jo, Trina, Rebecca from Helping Hands Group and the organising committee without whom the day would not have run as smoothly as it did.
There are some great photos of the day under the "Photo Gallery" link on the top toolbar of the website.
