Belconnen Magpies v Marist
The Belconnen Magpies played Marist on Saturday to determine who would be the best Under 18 side for 2009. Having played Marist 5 time’s piror to Saturdays match we had only beaten them once throughout the regular season. The lads knew it would be a tough assignment. We knew that if we started well we could be a chance. Tom Madsen licked the first 2 goals of the match and looked very threatening up forward. We came in at quarter time some 12 points up. However Marist kicked 5 goals to our nothing in the 2nd quarter to come in at half time with a handy 3 goal lead. Our midfield could not combat the Marist midfielders who continued to dominate the centre clearances. Our forwards tried to get things going but the Marist defence was too strong. The Magpie defence lead by Brady Daw, Jake Low, Jarrod McKinnon, Adam Curtois, Michael Handscome and Nick Collins all tried in vain to get the side back into the match. Throughout the season the lads have given their all and today was no exception, the opposition never allowed us into the game. Even though the result did not go our way the boys can be extremely proud of their efforts this season.
