Sunday the 9th of August saw the final piece of history made with the AFL Canberra NAB Youth Girls Grand Final between Weston Creek WILDCATS and Ainslie at Dairy Farmers Park. In what was a highly skilled physical encounter, Weston Creek were able to continue their dominance and maintain their unbeaten run through to the inaugural AFL Canberra NAB Youth Girls Premiership for 2009.
Best on Ground as selected by the umpires was WILDCATS player #3 Kelly Donnelly. A standout player all season, Donnelly knows exactly where the goals are every time she gets boot to ball.
In what was a physical first quarter Ainslie matched it with the minor premiers, Weston Creek, keeping the score line to a highly respectable 7 points deficit at quarter time. In the second quarter a more determined Weston Creek took the field and produced the dominant style of football as they had all season establishing a 5 goal lead at half time.
The second half mirrored the second quarter with Weston Creek dominating play and Ainslie struggling to turn all their possession into points on the scoreboard. The third quarter saw Ainslie held to scoring just 2 behinds while Weston Creek added 4 goals and extended their lead to 54 points. The fourth quarter was merely a formality but both teams continued their physical play with the final score Weston Creek WILDCATS 16.10.106 defeated Ainslie 5.7.37.
