Bombers back on the Winners List

Redlands survived an early scare on Saturday to beat Labrador on Cooke-Murphy oval by 53 points.

The oval was still muddy from last weeks downpour and the wind was fierce. The Bombers had to kick against the breezein the first term and although they started strongly to have the game poised at 3 goals a piece a late surge by Labrador full forward Fred Sleeth saw the home side bang on five quick goals and take a 29 point lead into quarter time.

The Bombers steadied and replied with an amazing 9 second quarter goals to take the lead at half time by 25 points. The midfielders dominated the stoppages 20-6 for the quarter and Eagle was damaging up forward booting three goals.

The second half saw some early resistance from the Tigers that saw them draw to within a goal halfway through the third term, but late goals to Pantic and Myers steadied the ship and sent the visitors into the 3qrt time break with a 16 point advantage.

With the breeze behind their backs the Bombers motored home with 7 goals to 1 to run out winners by 53 points. The victory was particularly impressive given the absence of Jeff White, Antal Reti and Jarrod Grimm who will all hopefully resume after the break.

Eagle returned to his best form with another big haul of goals (seven) and Jaran Pantic played argueably his best game for the season with four of his own goals up forward.

Josh Norman provided headaches all over the ground for the Tigers while Carse found the ball at will through the midfield.

The result puts the Bombers back into equal top position after Morningside defeated Southport with a 6-2 record.

This weeks bye will be a good chance for the side to rest up as they face Mt Gravatt after the break, although up to 13 players could be playing in this weekends state games.
